Autumn & Winter

The winter months can be the perfect time for a holiday in Wensleydale. When the weather is crisp and clear and the mist has lifted out of the valleys, visitors can enjoy exploring the Dales without the crowds associated with the summer months. The hills are often enhanced by frost and snow and the muted colours of the moors bring a completely different atmosphere to the landscape.

However visitors want to spend their days, Hawthorn Cottage provides the perfect winter base. The cottage itself is warm and welcoming throughout the day and guests do not have to venture out if they prefer to stay indoors. Light snacks are available at lunchtime or a packed lunch can be ordered the night before. If guests are staying at home, the fire will be lit so that they may sit by the inglenook and relax.

In the evening the curtains are drawn as soon as the light fades and guests may enjoy either lamp or candle light in the lovely old sitting room.

During the winter months, guests may order an evening meal at Hawthorn Cottage and there are also good eating establishments in Leyburn and the villages close by. Both bedrooms have tea and coffee-making facilities and electric blankets.
